2017 | Year in Review

2017 was another extraordinary year for Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. We continued to experience an upward trend in sales, recording over $4 billion in sales volume. January started off strong as we announced our expansion into Winter Park, Florida, marking the fifth office in Central Florida and establishing a distinctive presence in a venerable luxury community. Our exceptional team of professionals grew to approximately 1,100 in size — an increase of more than 16% over the previous year — throughout our 40 offices in Florida and North Carolina. Our growth and expansion were just the beginning of a banner year filled with newsworthy accomplishments.

Record-Breaking Sales, Eye-Popping Referrals

Premier Sotheby’s International Realty made headlines in 2017 with several significant sales. We represented both the buyer and seller in the most expensive home sold in Naples, Florida: A newly-built waterfront estate in exclusive Port Royal fetched $17.7 million on May 1, eclipsing the previous year’s most lucrative sale. In November, resale of the priciest home ever sold on Marco Island, Florida closed at $8.5 million — making it both the highest and the second-highest home sale on the island.

We managed 1,500 incoming and outgoing referrals in 2017, resulting in a record 600 closed transactions — including 65 incoming referrals closing on properties above $1 million. Notable transactions included a $17 million outgoing referral to Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, and an incoming referral of $10.5 million to the Naples Broad Avenue office. At the downtown Sarasota office, an incoming referral resulted in two closed transactions with the same customer for $6 million and $3.25 million respectively.

Team Attends Annual Global Networking Event (GNE) in Las Vegas

The Premier Sotheby’s International Realty team gathered at the Wynn Las Vegas for the annual Global Networking Event (GNE) September 25 – 27. They joined over 2,500 other industry leaders from 155 Sotheby’s International Realty® affiliates in 34 countries to collaborate, share best practices, generate referrals and create business connections around the world. Market Resilience in the Eye of a Hurricane 

In September, the Southwest Florida market was impacted by Hurricane Irma, a category 4 storm. After working together to recover from widespread power outages, flooding and displacement, associates and staff members quickly shifted their focus to helping customers, friends and neighbors with recovery efforts. Premier Sotheby’s International Realty quickly got back to business, and ultimately outperformed last year’s activity — even signing a contract for a $3.6 million Marco Island property on the day of the storm.

Biggest Power Summit to Date

A record 600 sales associates attended our annual Power Summit at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center in Punta Gorda, Florida on November 16 and 17.  Premier Sotheby’s International Realty associates from Florida and North Carolina, as well as guests from across the country and Canada, experienced two days of panels and presentations focused on building their luxury real estate business and ways to enhance exceptional customer service. View a full recap and event photos here.

New Story Initiative Begins

In 2017 we announced our affiliation with New Story, a non-profit organization that builds safe, thriving communities in the developing world. Together, we will be changing lives by providing homes for those currently living in slums internationally. This year, we introduced RealScout, a revolutionary luxury listing search tool that provides the industry’s best listing alerts, lifestyle search tools and local search features. The implementation of this program is the perfect complement to our local expertise and global resources.

Public Relations Wins on the Rise

As the year drew to a close, our listings, sales associates and company-wide initiatives experienced increased media exposure with the appointment of Elise Ramer, our new senior director of public relations. From the Naples Daily News and Sarasota Herald Tribune to the Orlando Sentinel, Charlotte Observer and beyond, Premier Sotheby’s International Realty grabbed more headlines as the luxury real estate leader in the markets we serve. With the recent naming of Meghan McSwain to director of communications, 2018 begins with a newly-expanded, experienced public relations and communications team — ready to further distinguish us as one of the most influential affiliates in the esteemed Sotheby’s International Realty brand.
