Top 5 Advantages of Urban Living in Southwest Florida

There’s nothing like having the world at your fingertips. Upscale shops, gourmet dining, white sand beaches and everything in between, it’s no wonder why more and more Southwest Florida residents are flocking to live in urban society. Although Southwest Florida has traditionally been beachfront living, gated communities and suburban neighborhoods, the movement to bring the advantages of urban living to our area has opened up new possibilities not previously available. Here are some of those advantages making this a red-hot lifestyle.

Proximity to Entertainment

Catch a show, dine with friends or simply take a walk along the beach. With so many options to choose from, you’ll never be bored. One of the best parts about urban living is proximity to entertainment, whether it be shopping, dining or catching a show. There’s always something to do when you live in the epicenter of town. New restaurants are wowing guests with exciting and exotic food, night clubs are adding their names to the marquee and boutiques are welcoming guests with open arms. It truly is the place to be and you’ll be right there in the middle of it all.

Handle Business Nearby

Another advantage of urban living in Southwest Florida is location. Being so close to our famous white sand beaches and everything else the area has to offer makes the choice apparent when considering moving to an urban area. Another aspect to take into consideration when weighing the options of urban living is being able to handle business items near to your home. Proximity to banking, lawyers and medical care is crucial to everyday life. Having that at your fingertips is a big advantage.

Save on Transportation

Save time and money by reducing the need for cars, taxis and Uber. Many members of urban society take in the beautiful Southwest Florida weather by biking or walking to their destinations instead. There are plenty of things to do within walking distance and people to enjoy them with, making life a little bit sweeter when you’re in good company. Access to upscale shopping and dining with friends, no matter what day of the week without the worry of transportation, makes life more interesting and fun.

New Technology and Design

It’s no secret that living in an urban area gives you first-hand access to revolutionary technology and new design trends. Urban socialites get to experience the latest and greatest trends first, having access to coveted designers and new, exciting technology tools. Experience the newest, hottest trends and cutting-edge technology all within your home.

A Gathering Place

Perhaps one of the most advantageous aspects of urban living in Southwest Florida is being the gathering place. Everyone comes to you. When living in urban society, you are steps away from amenities, such as:

  • Boutiques
  • Spas
  • Fine dining
  • Museums
  • Entertainment venues

This makes hosting friends an obvious choice when you’re in the center of it all. Have close friends over to your residence for wine pairings, or organize a group to catch a show in town. No matter what, there’s always something to do within reach.

Simplify Everyday Life

There’s no denying that urban living has many benefits, whether you’re looking for a quiet night at home or hitting the town to enjoy upscale food and luxury shops. Grocery shopping, workouts and everyday errands are completed in minutes with almost no travel time, giving you more time to enjoy the things you love. When you’re in the center of it all, the opportunities are endless. Make memories that will last a lifetime and pursue a life of luxury. You deserve it.

Take 5 | Q & A With Chris Maccarone, Bonita Springs, Florida Managing Broker

This fall, Premier Sotheby’s International Realty welcomed Chris Maccarone as the new managing broker in charge of its Bonita Springs, Florida office. Her real estate career began over 30 years ago in New Jersey, working at her family’s brokerage. A Florida resident since 1998, Chris has managed several real estate offices before her appointment to Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. We were curious to learn a little more about this fabulous addition to our leadership team, so we caught up with Chris for an insightful mini interview.

Q. Who inspires you professionally?

A. With my utmost admiration, I give that recognition to my dad, Samuel Carvelli. He was my mentor and role-model and with whom my life-long career in real estate began with. His work ethics and teachings are at the roots of my professional life. I have his hand-made nameplate on my desk today to always serve as a reminder of that. He was incredible.

Q. Name something on your bucket list.

A. I recently checked off something on my bucket list. A few years ago, my husband and two daughters made a trip to Machu Picchu in Peru. We climbed the famous mountain that you see in all the photos of Machu Picchu. It was such an incredible, awe-inspiring experience that I will never even try to duplicate it. The nature and antiquity, along with the respect of such a natural wonder with its steep height and narrow ledges made it an awesome bucket list item. I still cannot believe I climbed that mountain to the very top!

Q. What is your spirit animal?

A. It would have to be a cat. My family has always owned cats. They are so independent and self-sufficient, yet always available for a hug and a good petting when you want to feel good.

Q. What song is the soundtrack of your life?

A. “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

This song reminds me to be appreciative of the beauty of everyday life. Despite the world’s recent natural disasters, our nation’s political strife and the war-torn turmoil in foreign lands, we need to take time to appreciate and give gratitude to all the goodness that we are blessed with in our lives every day.

Q. What is your favorite restaurant in Naples/Bonita Springs, so far?

A. We are fond of Cooper’s Hawk in Naples. It has a great wine club, fun wine-tasting, a wonderful atmosphere, and the food is just amazing. It’s a great place to meet up with friends.

2017 | Year in Review

2017 was another extraordinary year for Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. We continued to experience an upward trend in sales, recording over $4 billion in sales volume. January started off strong as we announced our expansion into Winter Park, Florida, marking the fifth office in Central Florida and establishing a distinctive presence in a venerable luxury community. Our exceptional team of professionals grew to approximately 1,100 in size — an increase of more than 16% over the previous year — throughout our 40 offices in Florida and North Carolina. Our growth and expansion were just the beginning of a banner year filled with newsworthy accomplishments.

Record-Breaking Sales, Eye-Popping Referrals

Premier Sotheby’s International Realty made headlines in 2017 with several significant sales. We represented both the buyer and seller in the most expensive home sold in Naples, Florida: A newly-built waterfront estate in exclusive Port Royal fetched $17.7 million on May 1, eclipsing the previous year’s most lucrative sale. In November, resale of the priciest home ever sold on Marco Island, Florida closed at $8.5 million — making it both the highest and the second-highest home sale on the island.

We managed 1,500 incoming and outgoing referrals in 2017, resulting in a record 600 closed transactions — including 65 incoming referrals closing on properties above $1 million. Notable transactions included a $17 million outgoing referral to Turks & Caicos Sotheby’s International Realty, and an incoming referral of $10.5 million to the Naples Broad Avenue office. At the downtown Sarasota office, an incoming referral resulted in two closed transactions with the same customer for $6 million and $3.25 million respectively.

In September, the Southwest Florida market was impacted by Hurricane Irma, a category 4 storm. After working together to recover from widespread power outages, flooding and displacement, associates and staff members quickly shifted their focus to helping customers, friends and neighbors with recovery efforts. Premier Sotheby’s International Realty quickly got back to business, and ultimately outperformed last year’s activity — even signing a contract for a $3.6 million Marco Island property on the day of the storm.

Take 5 | Q&A With Elise Ramer, Senior Director of Public Relations

Earlier this fall, Premier Sotheby’s International Realty welcomed Elise Ramer as the company’s senior director of public relations. Elise is no stranger to luxury real estate public relations, as she has handled extensive campaigns for celebrity listings and record-breaking sales nationwide. Elise’s work has been seen in publications across the globe and has been keeping real estate associates’ names and properties in the public eye for years. While you may have seen her  “PR Opportunity” emails come across your Outlook, catching up with Elise took a little more work. Here is a look inside the fun and frantic world of a public relations professional.

Q. Who inspires you professionally?

A. Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook. I listened to her book, “Lean In,” on the way to my job interview with Nicky and Budge, and I will say, I think some of her talking points helped to give me the confidence I needed to ask for my dream job. Her determination to empower women to ask for and take their rightful seat at the executive table has been an inspiration. Also, her career trajectory is one to marvel at and respect.

Q. Name something on your bucket list.

A. That is a loaded question. There are two that hold equal billing in my world. One, land an interview on the Today Show. Two, see the Northern Lights. Both seem impossible, yet doable if I keep my sights set on them.

Q. What is your spirit animal?

A. Ha! Anyone who knows me will agree I am a bulldog by nature. I am fierce, but kind. I am loud and will speak out when necessary, yet not afraid to be who I am.

Q. What song is the soundtrack to your life?

A. There are too many songs to count, but pick any one of The Beatles songs from any and all albums. Since I was born, the music of The Beatles has always been in the background in my parents’ home. And, it still is, every day in my car on Sirius XM’s channel 18. You know you have it bad for a band when you theme your daughter’s nursery with yellow submarines and Beatles quotes.

Q. What is your favorite restaurant in Sarasota?

A. Well, as a former food writer for a local magazine, I have been completely spoiled and I have many favorites. However, Owen’s Fish Camp has been the top contender for years, and The Table Creekside is a close second.

Home for the Holidays

“I’ll be home for the holidays, you can count on me.” The exquisite details of these properties highlight the different aspects of what it means to be “home for the holidays.” Whether it’s an extravagant living or dining room, a  truly welcoming entrance, a chef’s dream kitchen, or a grand backyard to host the holiday celebrations, these luxury listings exude the spirit of the season.

The entryway of any home is usually what welcomes you. The open paved entrance of 1888 Bayshore Drive, Englewood, Florida is sure to welcome you and your guests as they arrive for the holidays. This drive way with the detailed fountain in the middle will fit all your family’s cars and provide enough space for those long awaited greetings on the front steps of this home.

Featured inside 298 Lodge Ride Trail in Banner Elk, North Carolina is a cozy large living room with a fireplace accented and completed by the surrounding wood finishes of the lodge. Family and friends will be delighted to gather around this fireplace while home. In this large living room, celebrating the holidays speaks for itself.

This gorgeous chef’s kitchen is found at 7567 Green Mountain Way, Winter Garden, Florida featuring ceramic floors and an expansive kitchen island. This kitchen provides the space, appliances and elegance to cook all your holiday meals. Cooking for the holidays in this kitchen you will not come across the expression “too many cooks in the kitchen.”

Looking forward to your big holiday meal, this dining room at 825 Longboat Club Road, Longboat Key, Florida can’t wait. The enchanting Villa del Sogno estate hosts this formal dining room lit by a beautiful chandelier to light up your holiday meals. The room provides ample space for friends and family to enjoy time together and great conversation.

This outdoor space at 16115 Baycross Drive Lakewood, Florida ranch screams Florida celebration with its outdoor fireplace, grill and screened in pool and what better way to celebrate than for being “home for the holidays.”
