A Historic and Renovated Former Inn

Completely renovated to modern standards, this 160-year-old historic home is a must-see. This residence was finished in 1857 and was built by Colonel William Shannon, a prominent Camden, South Carolina lawyer. It was originally called, “Pine Flat.” Colonel Shannon was killed in the last “legal” duel in the country on July 5, 1880. The duel caused a national outrage and his wife sold the house in 1883 to Frank Eldredge. This home is located at 1919 Lyttleton Street in Camden, North Carolina and is listed for $1,500,000 by sales associate Melissa McCoy.

The Eldredges opened the house as the Hobkirk Inn and it remained an Inn until approximately 1943 when the house was turned back into a single-family dwelling. The wings were taken down at that time. At the height of the property being an Inn, there were a total of 65 hotel rooms housed in wings off both sides and to the rear.

This amazing home boasts seven functional fireplaces, kitchen with 60-inch commercial range and freezer, walk-in refrigerator, bar with 1,000-bottle floor-to-ceiling wine closet, six brand-new bedrooms, four new full baths, new laundry with granite countertops and laundry chute. It also includes a carriage house with a one-bedroom apartment that has been rented for 20 years.
